STAINLESS STEEL AS THE BEST MATERIAL FOR FRONT DOOR HARDWARE

  • Corrosion resistance

Stainless steel products generally do not rust when properly surface-treated.

  • Aesthetic appeal

Preserves its appearance while other materials can fade over time.

  • Structural stability and impact resistance

Stainless steel as an extremely strong metal has practically an infinite life span.

  • Minimal and easy maintenance

The use of soap, water or mild detergent is best recommended. More about cleaning and maintenance here.

  • Hygienic surface

Stainless steel products generally have no pores, so bacteria with dirt rarely survives on them.

  • Recycling and waste reduction

Stainless steel is 100 % recyclable.

We do not compromise with non-ferrous metals

  • For faster production, some manufacturers make only the outer door handle elements in stainless steel and fill the inner elements with non-ferrous metals.

  • Non-ferrous metals oxidise in air and transfer rust to other elements on the door. They are also soft and brittle, causing instability of the fittings.

  • That’s why we don’t compromise with non-ferrous metals for load-bearing components.

Non-ferrous metals can transmit rust

What happens to the handle when the internal components are filled with non-ferrous metals.

At Griffing, we buy stainless steel from the best certified European suppliers, who guarantee the best protection against rusting.

LONG-LASTING APPEARANCE WITH THE RIGHT TYPE OF STAINLESS STEEL

Standard stainless steel 304 or acid-resistant stainless steel 316 for front door hardware - Griffing

A 304 STAINLESS STEEL DOOR HANDLE WHERE ACID-RESISTANT STAINLESS STEEL 316 WAS RECOMMENDED

We recommended an acid-resistant stainless steel 316 handle for installation on the front door in the coastal zone, but the customer opted for a standard one 304 anyway.

The handle was installed on a front door in a coastal area for about three months before it started to corrode. Due to the effects of the sea, the corrosion started to spread.

Both types of stainless steel are resistant to corrosion, but 304 to a lesser extent. This does not mean that every 304 stainless steel handle will corrode in a harsh environment, but it is more likely.
