In modern architecture, the most compelling projects are often those that successfully combine history with innovation. This is exactly the case in a carefully renovated farmhouse in Germany, originally built in 1841.
The renovation transformed the building into a contemporary living space while preserving its original character. At the center of this transformation is the entrance, a place where design, technology, and craftsmanship come together.
A Unique Approach: Craftsmanship at the Core
What makes this project particularly remarkable is that the front door was designed and built by a carpenter himself.
Instead of using standard solutions, the craftsman developed a custom entrance tailored to the architecture of the building — and integrated a Griffing handle system as a key design and functional element.
The chosen solution:
- Vision Line S handle
- Griffinger support
- finish: black RAL 9005 FS
- insert: oak (HRAST)
This combination creates a refined balance between modern minimalism and natural materials.

Invisible Technology: Fingerprint Integration
A central feature of the entrance is the integration of the ekey dLine fingerprint scanner.
Unlike conventional installations, the scanner is:
- positioned on the back side of the handle,
- completely hidden from view,
- ergonomically placed where the hand naturally reaches.
This ensures:
- intuitive everyday use,
- clean visual appearance,
- maximum convenience without compromising design.
To ensure reliability, the system is supported by an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), allowing access even in the event of a power outage.

Design That Tells a Story
The door itself is composed of two main elements:
- a flush-mounted black glass panel,
- combined with panels made from burnt oak.
The wood was treated using the traditional Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique, where the surface is carefully charred to preserve durability while maintaining the natural texture.
Additional details enhance the design:
- a laser-engraved house number, subtly integrated into the wood,
- a digitally controlled LED strip surrounding the door frame,
- individually addressable LEDs enabling custom lighting scenarios.
Technology and Architecture in Perfect Balance
Beyond aesthetics, the entrance includes advanced technical features:
- electric day unlocking system
- smart lighting control
- seamless integration of access technology
Together, these elements create a door that is not only visually striking but also highly functional.

A New Standard for Custom Projects
This project demonstrates an important shift in modern entrance design:
- handles are no longer separate elements,
- access systems are no longer visible add-ons,
- doors become integrated architectural solutions.
The use of Griffing systems in this project shows how our solutions can adapt to even the most unique, custom-built designs — supporting both creative freedom and technical performance.
We work closely with manufacturers, architects, and craftsmen who want to go beyond standard configurations.
Projects like this prove that when design, material, and technology are aligned, the entrance becomes more than just a door — it becomes an experience.
